What is the difference between Ampang Line and Sri Petaling Line?

Both lines share the same route from Sentul Timur to Chan Sow Lin (running via KLCC, Dang Wangi, Masjid Jamek and Bandaraya). At Chan Sow Lin they split: the Ampang Line continues east to Ampang, while the Sri Petaling Line heads south through Salak Selatan, Bukit Jalil, Sri Petaling and on to Putra Heights.
