TrainsTracking Blog
Country guides, route reviews, fare comparisons, and booking tips — written with real timetable data from the TrainsTracking database.
18 guides covering 12 countries worldwide.
About our railway guides
Every guide on the TrainsTracking blog is written by a specialist with hands-on experience on the networks they cover. Our writers have travelled the routes they describe, used the booking systems they explain, and verified the fares and timetables they quote against official operator sources. We do not republish press releases or copy generic travel content — everything is original, researched, and updated when operators change their schedules or pricing.
Our guides cover train booking for beginners through to advanced topics like rail pass optimisation, sleeper train booking strategies, and navigating complex multi-operator journeys. We focus on the countries and routes where rail travel offers the best value and experience: Pakistan Railways for domestic long-distance travel, Indian Railways for one of the world's most complex booking systems, European high-speed and sleeper networks, Japan's Shinkansen for international visitors, and Amtrak for scenic long-distance USA travel.
Each guide is linked to live data from the TrainsTracking platform — fares quoted are verified against current published prices, and journey times match the official timetable. Where we recommend specific trains or services, we explain our reasoning so you can make an informed decision rather than just following a list.

How we verify train data
All fares, journey times, and timetable information quoted in our guides is cross-referenced against official operator sources — SNCF Connect, DB Navigator, IRCTC, National Rail, booking.pakrail.gov.pk, and Amtrak — before publication. We update guides whenever operators make significant timetable changes, typically at the annual timetable change in December and following any interim amendments.
Our editorial team
Guides are written by regional specialists: Faisal Khan covers Pakistan and South Asian rail networks from years of first-hand travel across Pakistan Railways corridors; Priya Nair covers European and Asian networks as TrainsTracking's editorial lead; Alex Rahman writes on data and high-speed networks including DB and Shinkansen; Tom Richards covers UK rail, Amtrak, and budget European travel strategies.
Booking advice policy
TrainsTracking does not earn commission from ticket sales and has no commercial relationship with any railway operator or booking platform. When we recommend booking through a specific platform — IRCTC, SNCF Connect, DB Navigator, Trainline — it is because that platform offers the best fare or the most reliable booking experience for that network, not because of any financial arrangement.
