What Is the Green Line?
The Green Line (Train No. 14UP Karachi to Lahore, 13DN return) is Pakistan Railways' flagship express service, introduced in 2021 with new Chinese-built coaches. It covers the 1,288 km Karachi–Lahore journey in approximately 12h 45m — making it the fastest train on this corridor. It departs Karachi City Station daily at 16:00 and arrives Lahore at approximately 04:45 the next morning.
Classes & Comfort
The Green Line offers AC Standard and AC Sleeper classes only (no Economy). AC Standard seats are reclining with good legroom and individual overhead reading lights. AC Sleeper berths are 4-per-compartment, with firm but comfortable mattresses, a clean pillow, and a blanket. The AC is powerful — bring a light layer even in summer. Cleanliness is noticeably better than older PR rolling stock. Power sockets are available in most compartments.
Food & Catering
A pantry car serves basic meals: biryani, karahi, daal, bread, and soft drinks at reasonable prices. Vendors also board at major stations (Hyderabad, Rohri, Multan) selling snacks, chai, and fruit. The quality is acceptable for train food. Many passengers bring their own food from home or major city markets — allowed without restriction.
Punctuality & Booking
The Green Line has a reasonable on-time record — delays of 30-60 minutes are common but rarely exceed 2 hours (better than most PR services). Book online at booking.pakrail.gov.pk or the PakRail Live app at least 7-10 days ahead. AC Sleeper berths sell out first, followed by AC Standard. Fares: AC Standard ~PKR 4,800, AC Sleeper ~PKR 7,200 (subject to revision).
